claiming ppi while in dmp

hi all,
this is my first time on the site, so wish I had used it earlier. I am about to put a claim for a ppi on serveral credit card accounts. I have had a look thorugh the forum and I think I have confused myself.

So first I have to write to the credit card companies...do I use the questionaire on here or do I do it in my own words...letter form.
I am assuming then that I will get a letter back saying I dont have a case and that then I need to challenge this.

I think I need to get it confirmed on how I start the whole progress.

I have also been told that I can go ahead and claim ever though I am in a dmp....is this right

thanks

    Hi and welcome

Yes you can make a reclaim on the ppi whilst your on a DMP, however please be aware if you have debt with any of the card companies you will be making a reclaim, they normally use the refund towards the debt/arrears but still it helps to bring it down, and anything remaining plus interest should be awarded directly to you.

So even though your on DMP - you still pursue the ones who set up and arranged your accounts, so if for instance it was the bank, you pursue them at either their head office or complaints dept if they have one.

You can use the reclaiming questionnaire or write a letter in your own words, its your choice, but remember to keep copies in case you need to refer to them again at some point.

    Good luck.

They have 8 weeks to give a decision but may write to ask for more time.;)

  • great thanks for the reply,
I would be more than happy for any reclaim to be taken off my debt, that is the main reason I am doing it.
I am trying really hard to get onto of it all, I fell for one of the chargable iva companies a number of years ago
during a really testing time and have been stung for £4000 without any of my debts being paid off. My husband
    the same.
Have been in the DMP since oct 2009 so trying to look forward

    thanks
  • Hi brainy!

As a PPI newbie too, I became confused about part of PPI reclaiming guide itself. I understood the 'pre-stage' if you like, where you ask for terms & conditions using the template letter listed (and send recorded delivery and ask for response in 14 days). It fell down for me after that at Stage 1 'write to the seller', because I saw 'contact the company that sold you the policy asking for a refund'. I expected a template letter, but found the template FOS questionnaire instead.

I didn't realise the FOS questionnaire was that letter and your initial complaint. You set out your reasons for mis-sell in it etc, and they have 8 weeks to respond.

    Best of luck!
