discrimination

i hold a cea card because i am classed as 'disabled' with being profoundly deaf - this enables me to have a 'carer' with me - which i need for a number or reasons;- to help me communicate, to help keep me safe as i am unsteady due to poor balance coordination........

anyway, to get to the point - i tried to book 2 tickets for the theatre with the card which entitles me to the carers ticket free but, the theatre wouldnt accept it (they have in the past) because im not in a wheelchair and they cant see why i need a carer...........how discriminating is that?

so annoyed

did they actually tell you they couldn't see why you need a carer, or have they just stopped accepting the card for everyone?

no - they turned round to me and said 'how did you get this card' and i showed them my disabled bus pass too and said 'same way i got this one' cos of the way she spoke to me - she was very patronising as if id stole the card or something........i said they wouldntve gave me it if i wasnt entitled to it, but, she said something like but you arent in a wheelchair so you dont need a carer - i told her that was a new one - you are only disabled if you are in a wheelchair......

anyway, she wouldnt accept it and said it i was in a wheelchair she wouldve........

Have a look for the most appropriate passage from the Act to hit them with:

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

My sons gets DLA andhas oneof those cards too. To look at my son you would not think there is anything wrong with him but he has dyspraxia . It is disgraceful the way you were treated .If you have a card you are intitled to a free ticket. I would complain and hopefully they will compensate you for the distress it has caused you.

I totally agree that you have been treated appallingly, but if I can just offer my opinion on this - if you get a reasonable reply from the theatre management (as I certainly hope you will!) then please go and see the production (they may well invite you for free anyway - if I was the manager, I would).

It's probably very good, and I'm sure you'll love it, and forget all about the petty, stupid person on reception.
