Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good courier? I'm opening an online store and will need deliveries of 15kg +

I'm looking at HDNL, Fedex, DHL but don't know anything about their customer service skills etc..

Would appreciate any informed advice please.

Best wishes,

J

Edited to add: I'm waiting for HDNL and Fedex to get back to me but DHL prices look very steep to me at £22.95 for a 15kg parcel ... OUCH!

There is a good thread on the Ebay board about carriers. Prices come down a lot if you have a good volume of parcels to send. There are also resellers, like Parcel2go and Pharos for instance, who use major carriers but charge a lot less. The DHL quote is very expensive - I would expect to pay about 8 pounds for parcels up to 25kg.

HDNL and DHL are now the same operation and, in fact, is currently re-branding to Yodel apparently!

If you are just starting up you will not have the volume to get competitive rates direct from the parcel carriers so your best bet is to use someone like Parcel2Go.com .

Your cost for a 15kg parcel would depend on dimensions and any extra insurance you might want (£50 included as standard) but we currently use the DHL economy service at £6.99 + VAT which invariably gets delivered the next day.

If your trade takes off and you can go back to the carriers in the future and show them a proven level of business then you will be in a position to negotiate lower rates.

I have used Parcel2go a few times and their prices seem good for low volumes of business.

Thanks I really appreciate your help guys n gals. The parcels2go w/site is great and I'll def be a regular there until the volume increases and I'm able to negotiate costs down :)
