Front Door problems - Claiming

Hi all,

I am not sure if I am posting on the right forum but here goes.

We had a composite front door fitted 9 years ago so technically still falls under the IPWFI protection should the glazer go into liquidation/bankruptcy and we need to claim. We have the paperwork for this and have the glazers guarantee.

The problem is that this front door has never been right. It has split, is letting in water and needs to be replaced asap, oh and the lock is almost falling out and we struggle to get through the front door. It is not fitted right, doesn't shut properly and the glaze in the door has dropped.
The fitter came back a few years ago and tried to adjust the door then washed his hands of it. Since then the door has deteriated really badly.
We have tried contacting the glazer and he has gone into hiding. He doesn't exist where it says he should be and all telephone numbers are blocked. We don't believe he is trading anymore but he is also not bankrupt. IPWFI have not had any contact with him since 2009 and have said that unless we have our original contractors invoice and receipt for final payment we may not have a leg to stand on (as well as the fact there is no evidence to suggest he is bankrupt). All the glazing firms we have had come out to quote for a new door have said we need to get him to fix it as a first resort (which we have tried).

My question is how long should we have kept our invoices/receipts for - in my opinion the fact we have a written certfificate of insurance which IPWFI can find on their system should be enough? Should we have kept paperwork like this going back 9 years? Is there anywhere that legally states that you need to keep this sort of paperwork? Has anyone had a similar problem and rectified it or are we doomed to pay out for a new door?
