Is there a time limit for car insurance claims?

Options
About a week ago I got a small crack in my windscreen due to a stone hitting it. Since I have busy I have not had time to put in an insurance claim for it yet. I was going to phone today. Do you have to claim within a certain number of days of the damage for the claim to be successful? If so, what is the time limit? Does it differ for different companies? Would waiting a week effect the chance of a successful claim in this situation?

Just call an autoglazing company (I prefer the smaller local ones) and ask if they deal with your insurer if they do then they will sort the whole thing out all you will need is any excess (£50 +/-) and your insurance policy when they arrive.

But check to see whether excess, (possible) loss of NCB and future premium loads for a fault claim will be more expensive than just giving the windscreen firm cash.

We had a cracked screen on our van last year and the cash price to the windscreen company was only £40 more than the insurance excess so we left the insurance company out of the loop.

It does with my insurance co, so I recently found out. You need to check your policy to find out.

Correct, it shouldn't (and didn't used to) but with an increasing number of companies it does these days

OP, just tell them it happened earlier today, instead of a week ago, if you are worried about it.
