Nice

Anyone been? I've heard that a taxi from the airport to hotel is not recommended due to price - does anyone know anything about this?

We've never been before, so would love to hear from anyone who has been to Nice and has any tips or recommendations for anything. We're a young couple (early 20s), not particularly keen on clubbing per sé, but would like some nice bars for the evening, as well as plenty of good food and sights to see.

Thanks in anticipation :)

With the Taxi it depends how far your hotel is from the airport and the traffic levels at the time of your arrival. The Bus is easy, but if there are too of you and the traffic levels are likely to be lowish, I'd pick the Taxi.

  • Hi LewisC, I have been there as part of a cruise (which we'd never done before, it was fab!) Nice was one of the stops - nice beach but surprisingly full of grey high rises and main roads - I'm sure we just didn't see much of the more scenic bit!

Expensive but some nice cafe's we found near the beach in alleyways, you might be able to get a local rental apartment at a good rate, then get a cheap flight with Easijet? Thus allowing more cash for spending...

We went to Nice in September and liked the place overall but our trip was somewhat marred by my wife having her bag stolen our 1st night there- so be warned- it is rife in Nice- she had it stolen from under her chair in the restaurant we were at

But it is a very beautiful city indeed and we would definitely return

the restaurant we went to on our second night was great- place called Spagehttissimo (sp?) and its near where the flower market is

I would also recommend doing the guided bus tour

As for getting to your hotel from the airport- we got the bus and it was great- but it helps if your hotel is nr to the promenade de anglais as the bus runs along there

    Hi,
You get good advice for Nice on virtualtourist.com - there's a guy in the Nice tourist office who monitors the forum and posts good tips.
You have a number of options from Nice airport - depends where your hotel is.
    Cheers.

Take a look on https://www.tripadvisor.com for more info. I have been twice in the last few years and I recommend getting the bus from the airport. There are 2 buses ... one which goes along the promenade (coastline) and another which goes to the main Nice train station. Both take about 20-30mins to get to the main centre area of Nice. I cant remember the exact price but its way cheaper than getting a cab. Also, you can buy a travelcard type bus ticket at the airport which can be used to get to the hotel and then used all over Nice for a day.

Not sure how long you are there for, but I recommend getting a day travelcard for the train (11 Euros each) which allows you to travel across the whole Riviera from Monaco to St. Raphael jumping on and off the train whenever you like .... I suggest checking out Monaco, Antibes, Cannes and St. Raphael

Happens every where, I'm afraid, don't tempt them.

Yep- but bag was well tucked under - practically under the table- will certainly be belt and braces job when it comes to bag security if when we go back
