Help! computer wont restart!

Yesterday, I accidently kicked the plug out of my computer (i am aware that was a silly thinkg to do!) and consequently it wont re-start. The following is what is happening;
Once i turn the power on it goes to a black screen with writing asking me what mode I want to reload the computer. It gives me 3 different 'safe mode' options, one option of reloading using previous settings and one option of just starting it. It also count down from 30 seconds where if i dont select an option it tries to reload.
When I do select any of the above or options, or wait 30 seconds it goes to the next screen which i get the option of pushing f2 or f12, then the computer makes a funny noise (like when you try and load a floppy but there is no disk in the drive) and goes back to the screen giving me the options again. Whatever I do it always goes back to that screen and doesnt get past that bit....Please help!!!

is there an option to start up from last known good configuration ? it should be just below the other options but set on its own - try that oneJohn0

What I would do is put in the original XP disk and see if it boots up with that.
Hope you get it fixed soon

Is is actually trying to boot from the floppy? Maybe the BIOS has become changed? If you restart it, and get to the screen where it starts listing the drives and press F8 continuously, it should put you onto the BIOS screen where you can check where it's booting up from and change if necessary.0 -

Not sure. also not sure what BIOS is but I can guess. what is the screen listing the drives? The screen only lists whta mode i want to restart it...is that the time to press F8? If so, Im assuming I load it from Harddrive?
Thanks for the help?0
