You still haven't said whether the reading are estimated or not, Kirsty (both the opening reading on your latest bill and the reading that it has been billed up to). This really is key information.

Also, have the readings been billed the right way round, ie: does the day reading on the bill correspond with the day reading on the meter (and not the night reading) and vice versa?
  • Even the Daily Mail has been louder on the latest price increases than the reactions here, very useful also on information about switching providers.

Very interesting also this on the matter of consumer protection

    I quote:
"Recent consumer surveys have found that energy companies are less trusted than banks." Very rightly so.
  • I mentioned that I provided the readings and the bill is listing the Nov./Dec. pay and readings. Of course I do not know any more which readings I provided in January, but I suppose they will use the ones I gave them...

By the way, E.On's tariff till Feb 4:
Normal first units used 76kWh at 23.23p each
Normal next units used 1,014kWh at 9.09p each

    After Feb 4:
Normal first units used 101kWh at 24.43p each
Normal next units used 1,340kWh at 10.29p each

Looking at those you have not been charged for any E7 usage. It should give Primary / Secondary / Off Peak readings. Does your tarriff state you are on the EON ENERGY PLAN E7 or just EON ENERGY PLAN. You may need to call EON and get them to rebill you from the start of your account on E7 tarriff and not standard.
  • Thank you Advantix, this may be a very good track! I'll definitely call them about that.

Example of meter reading in the bill:

    Meter
    3 5 5 5 2 read by us 4 Jan 11
    3 5 7 7 4 est 4 Feb 11
    = 222 kilowatt-hours

    9 7 9 8 6 read by us 4 Jan 11
    9 8 8 5 4 est 4 Feb 11
    = 868 kilowatt-hours

    Electricity f Normal f From 4 Feb 11

    3 5 7 7 4 est 4 Feb 11
    3 6 0 6 7 read by us 17 Mar 11
    = 293 kilowatt-hours

    9 8 8 5 4 est 4 Feb 11
    2 read by us 17 Mar 11
    = 1148 kilowatt-hours

    Electricity f Normal f Up to 9 Apr 11

    3 6 0 6 7 read by us 17 Mar 11
    3 6 2 0 9 read by you 9 Apr 11
    = 142 kilowatt-hours

    2 read by us 17 Mar 11
    5 3 9 read by you 9 Apr 11
    = 537 kilowatt-hours

    And the costing:

    Up to 4 Feb 11
Normal 1,090 kilowatt-hours (kWh) used f see meter readings
Normal first units used 76kWh at 23.23p each
Normal next units used 1,014kWh at 9.09p each
    17.65
    92.17
    = 109.82

After price change on 4 Feb 11
Normal 1,441 kilowatt-hours (kWh) used f see meter readings
Normal first units used 101kWh at 24.43p each
Normal next units used 1,340kWh at 10.29p each
    24.67
    137.89
    = 162.56
  • According to E.ON, our night time usage is 20%, hence no E7 tariff and everything costed to standard rate... not even any other plan recommended.

Thought I'd already posted this. Maybe not.

£520 seems reasonable for five months over winter for an all-electric flat. Different tariffs (some cheaper) are likely to be available. But now I am repeating what people have posted after my original reply. Or perhaps I am just imagining things.
