Leave partner off the lease????

Hey guys,
I just wondered if you can leave a partner off the lease?
I am going to see a new flat to rent on Friday. If we like it, do you think the agents would let me put it in my name only? Or would it be best to pretend that I am the only person living there until I have the lease?
I only ask as my partner has very bad credit (due to mobile phones a few years ago) and I think if they did a credit check on him it would be the end of us being able to rent the flat.
Im more than capable of paying the rent alone and have all my wages slips to prove this. Its only £50 extra than what im paying now, and this one has an extra bedroom :j
Also, does anybody know the usual things they would ask for when leasing through an agent? I am just private renting straight with the landlord just now. Im thinking passport and wage slips, anything else?

Me and my partner have just rented a house in my name only.
I think as long as the EA underwriters can see that your wage is enough to cover the rent then its fine. You can always add your partner to the tenancy agreement as a 'permitted occupier'. I would be upfront with the EA about your partner living there also.
From what the EA told me, even if the underwriters declined the application, as long as the EA thought it was fine then they would let you rent it anyway. This may be incorrect, but i'm sure an expert will be along soon enough to correct me

Just remember that if you partner is not on the lease then they have no liability for the rent or for damage to the property. You would be responsible for all their actions and for paying the full rent etc if they refuse to do so. This could be considered the downside.0

I have no problem with this. I prefer that Im liable for everything, there are too many stories of break ups and things (not that i think this will happen, he is actually my fiancee as of 26th feb this year!!!:j), and to be honest, i like just being able to be in control of my finances. Where we are now, i can log into my online banking and see all the DDs for the flat going out and its not spread across 2 bank accounts. He isnt great with money but would be far too scared not to pay me rent!!!! :rotfl:0 -

Fair enough! I was merely pointing out the legal reality. How it best fits to your situation is, of course, up to you!
