Hi,
I am learning to drive at the minute and hope to get a car pretty much as soon as I pass my test if possible.
I was just wondering if anyone is able to advise me on how much they have had to pay for new driver insurance recently. I am a female in my late 20s and just wish to buy a standard small / medium car not a sporty or modified version. I know some may depend on the car but someone suggested it would be around £2k and whilst I anticipated it may be quite high I was surprised it would be quite that high.
Any advice / experience anyone can share would be brill.
Many thanks,
BH09

Hey,
I passed my test in Feb 2011 aged 23, I own an R reg Ford KA2 and the cheapest car insurance I could find was with M&S. I had to pay a deposit of £254.00 and then it works out at 11 months of £90.38.
That is based on fully comprehensive.
I hope this helps.

Hi Pipsta11,
Thanks for sharing that- i'll check M&S out as that's miles better than i've been quoted so far.
What's the KA like to drive? I want a car with the lowest insurance grou poss at min which seems to be a KA or a Corsa.0 -
simplest way to get an idea, since insurance depends on so many things, is choose a few of cars for example clio, fiesta, focus and astra and go on a price comparison website and put in those details as most allow you to put in a 'i havent brought the car yet' optionDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
You have passed the magic 25 years of age figure so that should help. But bear in mind that many folk are paying £300 -£400 now with 70% no claims bonus so which ever way you do it, it is going to hurt.0

Also somewhen soon insurance companies will no longer be able to base premiums on gender, the general concensus is that female premiums will rise to almost the same level as male ones (about 30-50% higher) and male will drop slightly. I love my little KA, I was driving around in it for about a month before I took my test and have never had any problems. My passengers do moan about space for them but the way I see it is they have 2 choices

Should that not read "Want to modify" I assume they can mod anything if it takes their fancy :beer:0 -
I just pasted my test at 42 and cheapest insurance on a peugeot 106 is £816. Insurances are pulling females in line with males I think that was from april this year. I went with diamond ladies insurancesBSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !

its going to hurt your pocket regardless. expect to have quotes above £1500, compulsory excess of £350-£500, and a minimum voluntary excess of £250 if you have a bump so you could potentially end up losing £800+ in the event of a fault claim.
putting a experienced named driver on your policy will help, choose your profession/occupation wisely, if you cant find your occupation dont guess.
some insurers are still taking PASS PLUS certs wich gives a percentage of discount.
