Norton Internet Security question

I've currently got Norton 360 but the upgrade fee is a bit steep and I don't really need all of the functionality.

I do want to stay with a Norton product (based on the Which reviews) and need advice as I am a bit confused... what on earth is the difference between Norton Internet Security 2011 and Norton Antivirus 2011? They are two differently titled and boxed programs but both seem to offer antivirus protection - the antivirus one is more expensive that the Internet Security product but seems superficially to do the same thing.

None of the sites I've been on give sufficient info to demonstrate any real differences.

If anyone knows then I'd be grateful as my current sub runs out in 2 days.

Thanks

Aaaah get rid of it it is a resource hog, use free versions of Avast,Avira, or MSE...avoid AVG end of my first response.

I use NIS 2011 and it is not any of the things in my previous para except if you want free the 3 I said are great. However do not buy Norton from their upgrade process. I bought my 3 pc version from amazon at 24.99 (not sure it is now look at amazon/google). I had to buy it , but it is a good paid for A/V Firewall etc , plus buy it elsewhere and you don't have to re-install just enter the new code sorted.

Now wait for the replies

Thanks for that but I'm really after the differences between the Internet Security product and Antivirus product - particularly as the latter is more expensive.

NIS 2011 includes anti-virus and firewall and other little bits of extras, the antivirus standalone is too expensive for what it does ie less.

Renewing your AV upon expiry is a mug's game. Just buying the new product from Amazon etc is invariably half the price or less than the renewal. Unless of course you use Norton or McAfee, where they very kindly default your account to auto-renewal and take the money up to 30 days before your expiry date is even due. That's the reason I would never buy a product from either company, even if they were any good.

    FROM which

Do you need to pay for anti-virus software?

Of course, it wouldn’t be a good idea to risk going without anti-virus software, but there’s no reason why you shouldn’t just use a basic free package, like AVG Free, Avast! or MSE.

use avast, malwarebytes, and windows firewall, all free
