Just a warning to anyone who might use Interpet filter aid, I have used it many times without issue but the last bottle I bought and used, as instructed and as I always do, caused an immediate reaction in my tank and subsequently killed many of my fish, costing me over £200 to restock and rectify, as well as causing me major grief of having to re cycle my tank. 10 Seconds after administering the solution into my tank the fish began to gasp at the surface, and in the time it took me to rescue my fish from the tank into a basin of fresh water my red tailed sharks bodies had turned from black to grey.
I suspect there is a rogue batch that has too much formaldehyde in the preparation, but Interpet dont care. They asked for a water sample a month after the incident occurred, even though I advised them I had had to take all the water out of the tank whilst trying to put it back to a safe environment for my remaining fish, so obviously by the time they got a sample there would be no evidence of their product in it. I have never suffered problems with keeping fish, and the reaction happened approx 10 seconds after putting the solution in the tank. I lost 8 fish in total.
So be careful anyone using Filter Aid! It might just Kill you fish, and all the assistance you will get from interpet for your trouble is a letter saying "what a Pity".

What a horrible thing to happen.Poor fish, and poor you,i would be devastated.Interpet products are usually good so as you say,a rogue batch. However Interpet should have done a great deal more,it could affect a great number of fish.
Please could you register and post this warning here, where a much greater number of people could be at risk of the same awful thing happening.. http://forum.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/

feel free to crosspost if you think it beneficial. if it stops one more fish dying then thats a good thing.
I used a lot of interpet products, as well as other brands from their parent company, and I wont use any of them now after the condescending treatment that I have been given from them. What a shame.0 -
I have just copied your post over to the Practical fishkeeping site .0
