gm credit card

i had a credit card from gm it was a mastercard and i fell into difficulty with payments i tried to repay best i could but they agreed for a short time then hit me with charges of interest more than what i was paying, so it was not worth paying. i went to citizens advice and they agreed a payment plan with them but after 6-12months it changed and they started to charge me again i phoned and phoned but nothing apart from defaults on my account and interest on top of interest. eventually went to a credit reference agency who agreed payments for so long then they sent it on to another firm each time it was going up and up with charges is there anything i can do to get any money back from gm card as i still owe £1600 from about 5 years ago thanks
