Are there any grants available for children that aren't actually disabled?

That may sound like a silly question, let me explain. My son is now 11 and suffered various complications when younger. He had an operation for pyloricstinosis at 3 mths old and then at 9 months suffered hydrocephalus which almost killed him. He had brain surgery and was in and out of hospital for years with shunts having to be refitted. He had lots of physio too. He has a very large head now and scarring to his head and chest. He had the shunts removed years ago and seems to be doing well, the doctor said he may develop epilepsy during his teens but im praying that wont happen.

The thing is because of his appearance (his large head and he often walks around with his tongue out bless him) he often gets picked on from other kids. I am trying to deal with this as best I can but kids can me so cruel. I really want to do something that will cheer him up such as a day trip out or something but as funds have been very tight over the past few years this hasnt been an option.

Are there any organisations that help with funding for such things for a child like my son? I know there is help out there for disabled kids but my son isn't disabled and doesnt get dla or anything so i'm guessing there isn't anything?

Not sure if this helps, but maybe they can give more advice to you.

Do you have a local support worker(I have a home school link worker) or maybe ask the school as there are some local charities that can help with things. We got funding for 2 new mattresses from a charity which only gave grants to people in our town. Or maybe even ask at the local CAB.
Good luck and I hope things get better for you both
