Trying to get insurance for my Aixam - please help!

Options
hi am hoping someone can help me out here, I'm having difficulty obtaining insuance for my Aixam 500.

I passed my bike test about 20 odd years ago but don't have a full car licence. I know I'm allowed to drive 3 wheelers and a few 4 wheelers such as Aixams and Ligers but I cannot find insurance.

I've spoken to several brokers who say they cannot insure me unless it's on a provisional car licence with a co-driver, which I know is incorrect.

can anyone who drives one of these little cars on a full bike licence advise where they got insurance from?

many thanks x

It might be worth asking on pistonheads - there are more people driving unusual cars/bikes there.
  • I have a good driving record on full licence, my wife has full motorcycle and can drive b1 microcars (aixams).

trying to get insurance for the aixam is a joke... qotes for either of us as sole driver are between £350 and £720.

Thats fully comp. low excess, private / social use, 5000mls/yr

    I pay £305 on a mercedes 6 seater 2 1/2ltr van
    I pay £320 on a turbo escort

the aixam quote of £350 was with my record OR my wifes record and just for fun.... with AND without no claims discount, with EITHER £50 or £500 excess..... with a clean licence OR 2 speeding fines and 9points..... with 42yrs licence OR just passed test.

As will be seen I was bored and obsessed with the stupid quotes

The reason the premium is so high is that the car is not widely known here and insurance companies will have little experience of it - therefore they don't really want the business and will quote high amounts to avoid having to take it on.
I used to think that good grammar is important, but now I know that good wine is importanter.
