Ok I hve been really naughty but not on purpose. I just got so fed up of ringing around and everyone telling me they are not my supplier I just gave up and then buried my head in the sand about it.

My electriciy supplier sent me a gas card about 3 weeks age saying my card was not registering my payments..... well it wouldn't as I don't have a prepayment meter!

I have been in my flat for 6 years almost 7. I have never paid gas and will need to find a supplier for my new property. My new property is a new build shared ownership property. the vendors do not know who the utility suppliers are apparently!

I will need to call my electricity supplier and tell them to disconnect the electricity but what do I do about the gas?

I am going to be in big trouble aren't I???

if you are moving out of a property and someone else is moving in after you then they probably wont disconnect the electricity, just send you a closing bill. If the property is being demolished (at the extreme) they would do the same thing and then disconnect the supply at demolition time.

If no-one will tell you who your supplier for gas is then you have got away with it now as there is a new energywatch ruling that says gas or elec suppliers can't back-bill for more than two years and six is more than this, so I believe that means they can't bill you at all! With gas and elec it's possible for meters just to never get set up correctly on the relevant databases so then you can get free gas and elec for long periods of time. Mistakes happen. Everyone else pays for them in higher bills.

As regards to your new property, it sometimes takes a little time for the systems to get updated with regard to newbuild properties, but you "should" be able to sorted fairly soon after you move in with knowlege of who supplies you for both gas and elec.
Indecision is the key to flexibility :)

Usually in my area Transco can tell you who the gas is through and NEDL (who do the power lines etc in north east) can tell you who the electricity is through. Took me 2 calls when I moved.
One day I might be more organised...........
