Homeopathic Help!

I believe that there is a lot of confusion regarding homeopathy/herbal/vitamins/minerals etc but op is not asking for a miracle cure but to try and keep her dog in optimum health(given the circumstances) which there is no harm in doing.0

And the advice is don't waste your money on Homoeopathy remedies or anything else that claims to work without proper proof.
Instead invest in a feed and possible vitamin supplement. Although on a decent diet even these can be voided.0 -

Why do you group these together? Certain herbal remedies, vitamins and minerals have hade their efficaciousness tested and proved. Homeopathic remedies show no more efficacy than a placebo.
There's no harm in patting your belly 5 times then touching your ear when you get up in the morning, but it won't achieve much......0 -

I grouped them together because as I said there is a lot of confusion over the different areas

I also have not said that I am personally for or against any of them, yes I do have an opinion but it is not relevant
I do not know too much about homeopathy barring the fact that it is based on the principle of treating like with like albeit extremely watered down. The one thing that did prove interesting a few years back was that those with severe peanut allergies were given microscopic bits of peanuts over time and this was gradually increased to such an extent that they would no longer have an allergic reaction. This was carried out at a hospital by medical personnel although I do not recall where in the UK it was undertaken(it was on the news) So obviously this is very similar as in like for like.

Does that mean it will always work, in every situation...who knows0 -
That's got absolutely nothing to do with Homoeopathy. There is still some of the peanut allergen in the solution. The one thing that did prove interesting a few years back was that those with severe peanut allergies were given microscopic bits of peanuts over time and this was gradually increased to such an extent that they would no longer have an allergic reaction. Homoeopathy is based upon the principle(if you can call it that as it rubbish) that a small does of something that causes the same symptoms of the illness can cure it. They water down the substance so much that statistically there can't be any of the orignal substance left. They try to explain why it works by claiming that while the water has somehow forgotten all the poo its had it can remember the original substance.
While its true quite a few herbal/natural remedies have been proven to work. A much larger percentage have been proven to have to no effect at all. Its difficult to wade though teh chaff nowadays to find the stuff that actually works.0 -
What it has got in common is that they 'treat' like for like again going back to peanut allergies those with the severest form don't have to actually come into contact with peanuts just entering a room where they have been eaten is enough to set the allergic person off(it was this group that was highlighted in the news) so in that case it could be argued that very little of the peanut allergen is in the air :)So as you said "Small doses of something that causes the symptoms can cure it"
Like I said I personally am not for or against I just try to be open minded.
I do agree it is difficult to wade through the chaff though and anything that claims to 'cure' I would be suspicious of, alleviate the symptoms is possibly more realistic(but it doesn't mean cure)0 -

The peanut case is actually a form of desensitisation-similar to that used for hayfever sufferers, in the form of a immunotherapy "vaccine" that the dosage is increased each time. It is a conventional medicine, and is nothing like homeopathy. Homeopaths like to compare vaccination to homeopathy-as you are using the pathogen to prevent the disease-but vaccines (be it immunotherapy, or viral or bacterial vaccines-eg TB/polio/canine parvo distemper etc) all contain recognisable amounts of the pathogen/particles-they aren't just water, that remembers the molecule! :rotfl:
OP homeopathy should do your dog no harm, however I do urge you not to avoid conventional, palliative treatment-please ensure that pain relief is used appropriately and when needed.
As a side note, a human homeopath should not provide advice or medication for a dog-it is counted as an act of veterinary medicine and therefore homeopathic treatments can only be prescribed by a practising vet (according to the veterinary surgeons act)0 -
How can it possibly be counted as an act of veterinary medicine when the apparent consensus is that it is simply water?
Why do some vets offer this inspite of studying veterinary medicine?0 -

Money. I doubt vets believe in homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropracty etc. But if they can make money from idiots who believe in it then they will sell it, unethical mind you but many veterinary practises are struggling so will take whatever they can get.0
