No negotiating on car insurance

Hi,

My Insurance renewal is up at the end of the month. My car is a bit rubbish - to be fair, if I got £1000 I'd be laughing, but it does the job.

I have had a license for 26 years, no claims in the last 10 at least and do less than 10K miles a year and don't commute as I work from home.

Basically I tick loads of good boxes, but my current insurer, Axa have increased the quote to over £400 from £300 last year - and they are still the best, I've had quotes from around £450 to over £900. Ouch.

Fair enough, but I've called up a few of them, not one of them seems willing to negotiate anything whatsoever, even when told they aren't competitive. Martins tips suggest that I should be able to get something. I was wondering if anyone else has found zero haggle from insurers right now? Or am I just rubbish at it?

So youve had a rise of 25%, not bad compared to most people, my renenwal quote went up 54%. It may be your best bet as it saves the faffing of giving your card details, no claims proof etc etc to another insurer. Try masterquote.co.uk, see what they offer.

Thanks, I just saw a newer article in the site about average at £800! I think I'll count myself lucky then, still a complete joke and I can see why some people chose not to insure - for my car, by the time I pay the excess it's almost not worth claiming unless it was a write off, certainly wouldn't be worth fixing in most cases.

I'll try masterquote and a local broker as well.

But you can still do an awful lot of damage to other people and property, can't you?

    ;)
  • those years has passed now of haggling insurance wise, the price they quote is the price they want, doesnt matter whether you a good example and tick all their good boxes. they dont seem to care if they lose out to a competitor i suppose. where you dont choose to insure with them someone behind you in the phone que will.

Problem is worse now because there are so many different insurance companies when actually they all belong to the same underwriter so really they dont lose out!
