Hello
Thank you for your recent communication and confirm that your comments have
been noted, however in accordance with Company policy an agent may attend your
property to confirm your residency.
I would be grateful if you could provide proof of residence to our agent in the
form of a copy Council Tax Bill detailing your name and address . This will
enable us to remove your address from our database and undertake a trace to
locate the person concerned. Please note that originals should not be sent as
they can not be returned to you.
Alternatively, you can send us a copy of the above mentioned documentation
direct to this office.
Please accept my apologies for any inconvenience that may have been caused and
I thank you for your cooperation in this matter.
Regards
Philips
Why should i have to pay to send this to them? i really dont want to, but i am scared not for me, but my baby, if i was by myself i would let them come round.
Also will they really use force?
can i get them done for harassment?
Many thanks

It's highly unlikely they'll use force, just don't open the door to them IF they do turn up. Chances are they're just idle threats.
If I wanted it off my back I'd just send them a copy of my council tax bill just to be done with it once and for all. Make sure you get it in writing that they're sorry and won't bother you ever again
It's up to you what you do, obviously. But for the price of a stamp... it'll be done with.0 -
I think this just means that they would like you to prove that you're not the person they are looking for.
It seems a fairly polite letter to me and they don't have the authority to use force, but it's hardly harrassment either.Space available for rent0 -
I love the line about their company policy. As polite as it is- There company policy has NO basis in law. You do not need to show them anything, although it may make your life easier.
They have as much right as the paper boy or a local tramp to "attend" your property. There is a template letter on here which reminds them of that.Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0 -
thanks all i no it would be easier just to send it to them but it means photoscopys getting it posted, im just a bit mad how i should have to pay for this maybe i should send them the receipts and get them to pay it me back lol, and in the harassment bit i get sent letters off them every week£2014 in 2014 challenge v-£30 c-£176.23 £201.23/£2014

If you're fed up then I think the price of a stamp and a photocopy is a small price to pay to get them off your back.
Like I say. it's up to you. You can either sort them out or carry on getting letters every week.0 -
Relax. They need to prove that you are the debtor. If you're not, then they can't. Write to them and tell them that you expect to receive no further correspondence and that you will bill them £25 for every unsolicited letter that they send.Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. You mentioned bailiffs in your post but if you look at what they have written they have said an agent may call. A doorstop agent is not a bailiff, its just a man knocking on your door. They don't have any rights to enter your property or to see any paperwork or well anything.
You could send a follow up letter (with or without that 'proof) or you could just to ignore them, in the very unlikely possibility that they turn up on your door, ignore them as well. Well you could open the door tell them they've had a wasted trip ask them to leave and then shut the door on them.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
I would also add if it is not you and the bailiff takes your stuff they will have to bring it back and a compo claim would follow , Also if some ne turns up at the door show them your proof of ID and then tell them to do one0

We started to receive letters from a collection agent at the end of last year addressed to someone else for an unpaid gas bill from 2009. We've lived here for over 7 years and had never seen the name of the adressee in the time we've lived here. I just returned them to sender, stating unknown at this address. They ended up sending us a card to say that an agent would be calling in to see us (christmas week too), but they never came. We never received anything else.
Personally, I would just ignore it and if they turn up, show them your ID. But if it really does worry you, send them a copy of a bill.0 -
This happened to my son. He scanned a copy of his tenancy agreement onto his computer and everytime he got a debt demand he e-mailed a copy to the debt collector and asked for his address to be removed from their records. It took time but it worked - no cost involved.I'm a retired employment solicitor. Hopefully some of my comments might be useful, but they are only my opinion and not intended as legal advice.0
