Interference on phone handset

I am hoping that someone looking at this may be able to offer some advice on a problem that I have with my phone, which is that there seems to be interference somewhere.
It is a phillips handset phone (rather than a wired phone - the one with the handsfree handset that you slot into the base when not using).
When I make or answer a call it has what seems to be an echoy kind of noice, and everything in the background can be heard really loud at the beginning of a call - it also seems to whirr .....It's gonna send me deaf....or insane...if I don't sort it out.
I was on the verge of just getting another phone, but I don't really want to spend the money if I can sort this out.
I know it is the phone as I have had the line tested.
It isn't placed either near the window or near any electrical items that might cause interference ( I thought that might have been the problem so I shifted it and it's still the same).
It is plugged directly into the main telephone line into the house.
The bloomin' manual, although it is about an inch thick, mentions nothing about this kind of issue as far as I can see.
Is it to do with wavelength, and if it is is there anything I can do to sort it????
Yours hopefully, desperately......insanely.....Gail

Sounds like it's on the verge of feeding back - try turning the volume down.

UK DECT phones don't use 2.4GHz. Some cheapo grey imports might but I doubt it's picking up yours or any body else's WiFi.

Problem is it is already quite difficult to hear - it's certainly not loud.
It's a phillips phone - bought from argos - it certainly wasn't a cheap one - it's claim is that it is clear , which is why I got it.
If I were to try changing wavelength - how would I do that??

The suggestion was to change your WiFi channel but it's probably a waste of time because it's not likely to make any difference. To make sure turn your router off - if it does alter the phone problem then moving them further apart is more likely to help than changing channel.

I'd be inclined to take it back to Argos and say it's faulty.

Thanks Kwikbreaks - I will try I think with the suggestion of turning the router off and seeing.
Unfortunately, I have had the phone for over 12 months...kept thinking it was something else causing the prob ....if it doesn't sort I suppose I will have to get another ...suppose it'll serve me right for putting things off until they are unbearable.

This isn't really relevant, but I was very disappointed with our Philips DECT phone.

I temporarily registered it to a spare (Binatone) base station. It worked okay, but when I came to de-register it, and register it back to the Philips BS, it wasn't going to let me.

Weirdly, there was nothing in the user manual about it, so I contacted Philips Customer Services. A technician was aware of the "fault" and told me that I would have to return the phone to Philips to have it de-registered from the other base station. Philips wanted to make quite a hefty charge for this that wasn't warranted by the value of the phone.

It struck me that it must be quite a common situation. The consumer was victim to a combination of shoddy product design and profiteering from Philips.

I vowed not to buy Philips again.

If it's less than a couple of years old it might be worth taking back and arguing the toss anyway - check the consumer rights board for advice but I think it's reasonable to expect an expensive phone to last longer than a year and the sale of goods act or some such gives you some rights in this area. It may well be you'd have to wait for a repair though and unless you have a spare phone that's not a lot of good.
