Success rate of leafleting anyone?

I'm in the throes of distributing 10,000 leaflets, does anyone have any idea of what sort of success rate should we be expecting (assuming we have a worthwhile product and are targeting the right people)?

    1% if your lucky.
Can be a lot less just depends on how well the leaflet is designed and if you have targeted the right market and another big thing that will effect your results is the timing.

1%, is being optimistic, I'd say aim for 1 in 1000. or 0.01%

Just as important is how are you tracking the response rate? A lot of companies include a coupon or specific offer with a leaflet so they can track their ad campaign.

If leafleting had a 1% conversion rate every single company would have a team delivering leaflets day in day out non stop, I doubt many non targeted ad campaigns have that sort of take up.

To be honest it all depends on waht business/service you are trying to advertise...

I totally agree you get less than 1% inquiries, then even less that would lead to sales etc...

Also I have noticed an increase in leaflets coming through my door, varying from odd job man, gardening work, house clearance, we buy your gold, scrap... dog walking, etc and to be honest whenever i get a leaflet now it goes straight in the bin, as i dont know which ones are genuine businesses or people trying to make a buck on the side...

But on saying that we have done leaflet drops in the very early days of our business and havent done then since because of the above...

    1 in a thousand or one in 10,000 ? Quite a wide guesstimate ;)

My feelings are between 1 and 2 per cent depending on the product and area targetted.

Thanks everyone, I'd just guessed at 1% so it's heartening to see that I wasn't over estimating TOO much at least!

We are advertising a high-end children's birthday party type thing (that will only appeal to girls.) God-awful timing on my part means that we got the leaflets printed just as the schools broke up. So far I've leafleted a very affluent, family-orientated area (maybe 1,000 houses and commuters) but by the time you divide it in half for those without kids, half again for those with boys and divide it by 12 for those planning a birthday party on any given month (divided by the number you first thought of) I'm not holding my breath for enquiries! I think I have to be patient and wait for the schools to go back so at least I know I've got the remainder in the hands of the right people.

I am starting a children's birthday party business too. Have you advertised on local forums such as mumsnet?

Yes, I have! Have you had a good response from there?

why are you only doing parties to appeal to girls?

take this which ever way you want, but if i had a young child i would be very suspicious of a company that is doing parties only for young girls
