I set up a DD with Barclaycard this was shown on my account as being setup. It was also shown on my Barclaycard online account page. However the first payment was not taken. I then got a letter stating not paid ( no phone call ) I immediately made a payment and contacted customer services, waste of time

Rather telling that the one thing you didn't mention it was stated on is your statement for the relevant month.

Does it say on the statement that they'd take payment by DD?

Yes? You most certainly have cause for complaint.
    No? Erm, you don't.

Barclays are not the only CC company to work this way. With most, if not all, of the companies, if it's not explicitly stated that they'll take payment by DD, then they won't - and if it's the first statement after setting up, or changing a DD, then either pay by another method or ring up and confirm the method for that statement.

Barclaycard DO accept payments by DD.

The DD was set up through the online Barclaycard account. It states PAY YOUR CARD BILL. REVIEW YOUR DIRECT DEBIT. Under this it states Minium, Payment, Account. All of which were had the correct details filled in.

Perhaps I've been lucky but Ive never had a problem with other CC in the past.

I'm well aware of the fact that Barclaycard accept payments by DD.

My point is that they'll only do so if they say they will on a statement.

And if a DD has just been set up/changed, then for the next statement they may not collect by that method.

    On that statement alone.

And it will not say that they will collect that statement's payment by DD.

Unless of course Barclaycard never say that they'll collect by DD on their statements. But I'd find it highly unusual if that was the case.

I have a Hilton Hhonors Card from Barclaycard and can confirm that they do use this wording. I can also confirm that my DD was set up and actioned in time for my first statement, so no con here.

Con and Rip Off - the most over used words on this site.

This is neither, merely a case of not reading then blaming someone else.

Doesn't matter Paul - they're not listening ! Much easier to blame someone else and waste everybodies time with a complaint. Is there an OFT/FSA type organisation that the lenders can complain too if their customers are too lazy to read ? ;)

    Update with my case

Barclaycard have now refunded all charges and I'm back on the 0% interest. This was all done with the help of a Barclaycard web team member as the customer relations were a waste of time.

y advice would be to make the first couple of min payments manually untill the DD's kick in. You should then be ok, you may make an extra payment but it comes off your debt in the end.

For the cynics who responded Barclaycard DID give me a good will payment but this has been donated to a local childrens hospice.

Well done, for both the result and your generosity.
