flashing green ring on original xbox.

Options
I have just dug out my old xbox (v.1) but it wont accept any discs, games, dvd's or cd's. When I close the disk tray it just opens again after a few seconds. I have tried to hold the tray shut but as soon as I let go it just opens. The green ring around the eject button is permanently flashing green. I have had for years but have rarely used it and this is the first time in about four years I've had it out the cupboard- any ideas?

Flashing green is normally the A/V lead is bad somewhere.

If your Xbox has been modded and the mod chip has failed for any reason, that will also cause a flashing green.

I thought it flashed orange if there was a problem with the video cable, Flashing green is usually when its ejecting, Sounds to me like the eject button (top button) is stuck down, Try pulling out the power lead and closing the tray, If it turns on and ejects when the power lead is plugged in then i would think its the button, Maybe clean up the button from the outside or take it apart and have a go

It does, and it will also flash green under certain fault conditions.

Remove the rubber feet and the screws are underneath.

got it. I only have screw drivers but I have discovered if I hold the draw shut with a disk in and then turn it off and back on whilst holding the door shut it works and loads up.

Guess that rules out an issue with any of the leads, I still think its the eject button on the front, Maybe its got a short or something behind the button is stuck, You could try tapping it repeatedly and see if it stops ejecting when you power it on.
