Call Credit's £2 statutory credit report

Callcredit will NOT accept my card payment for this, but if I select the 'free trial' (and then we'll bill you 12 quid a month) option, it drops into place beautifully and I suspect it would accept the card no bother.

I reckon this is a scam - has anyone successfully got this report for £2?

I have. Have you tried pointing out to Call Credit that the £2 SR isn't working?

Why not take the free trial and cancel just before the trial ends so you don't get billed?
  • well, it finally accepted an alternate card. I've done the free trial with the other two, and notoriously forgotten to cancel the darn thing, ended up costing me a fortune!

Yeah, the trick is to cancel! :D

Yeah, something tells me I am not unique in this respect :o hence the 'offers' ;)

Just had the same thing today and wrote a post about it elsewhere. Seems I will have to send a cheque as I refuse to be pressured into joining any trial "free" or not.

In my case, a visa debit card failed on visa, solo and maestro options. I'm hoping that they haven't secretly processed my card 3-4 times (maybe unfair to think they would - until I read forums, will see my statement tomorrow). The site was slow, the help was hopeless and there was no clear way to contact them about this matter. That the government (or some important office) allow this to be an official agency for credit report, listed on .gov websites, is a wonder. I need to check that I'm clear with all three CR agencies, not like I have a choice to take my business elsewhere. Equifax working fine so far* and had lots of security like sending proof of identity.

    * Edit: Not so fast. Equifax decide that my SCR application was morphed into a simple login activation. Email guides me to an account page where only the expensive reports are visible to buy. The £2 SCR was buried away in small print at the bottom of a help page. Annoying but at least they showed it now.

I have had the same problem with it not accepting my card - I actually emailed them asking if there was a problem with the site. Surprise surprise I got no reply and that was around the beginning of January!

I haven't tried for a while but if sending a cheque, as you say AppleSource, is the only option looks like I might have to do that too.
Here to offer help and advice, and maybe take a little in return.

Whilst I am happy to share my knowledge, I am in no way a professional... I can not therefore accept responsibility for inaccurate info, I ask that you take professional advice rather than rely totally the info provided by myself
  • You can grab it here for all it's worth:
    website name slash media/53063/creditfile-app.pdf

Even the form is as frustrating as the website. My address hardly fits the given spaces. It's a pdf made for US Letter size not British A4, which annoys my printer - they'll probably mail it back claiming it didn't align with the scanner properly and recommend the subscription.

I haven't paid anything yet and already want my money back.
  • I sent my £2 off by cheque 2 months ago. It has been cashed, but no credit report. No response to the email I sent them last week. I know it's only £2, but it's the principle! It makes me really angry that we have no choice but to use these cowboys.

Just to add, I don't think the option for the free trial was actually there when I did my application, or I would have tried that (though I prefer by post so you don't have to send ID).

Your rights include being posted a copy of the Statutory Credit Report within 7 working days of receipt of your request and payment.* That's by law so don't let them off.

If you haven't received it, the advice on the Information Commissioner’s Office website is you contact them about the matter, if that doesn't help then the ICO has a helpline.

edit: Google up this "credit_explained_leaflet_2005.pdf" and there's lots of help on pages 4-5, 14-15 and 23.

    * Seems they can take longer if they need proof of ID, but they took your money!

Thanks, I didn't know that. They will be receiving a stern letter!

Edit to add: Interesting to see that the ICO have a phone number for CallCredit that is curiously absent from their own website! Not that I'm going to call the 0870 number.
