Which one is it, it can't be both! If you are using RGB out from the DVD you should be using RGB in on the tv as well. Are both selected to RGB? If the pic is still monochrome, try selecting on your DVD player the output video format to 'Auto' and not PAL.

The same with S-video. Out from DVD in to tv. If the output is B/W using s-video it may also be a case you need to enable s-video on your tv as if it is set to composite (normal) it will display a black and white picture.

Just another thought. How old is the tv? Can it handle NTSC signals?

Whilst the DVD player can play region 1 discs it most likely will be outputting it in NTSC format which is used in the USA rather than PAL which is used here.

You need to check that your TV supports NTSC or look in the menu of your DVD player as some have the ability to convert NTSC to Pal on the fly.

I strongly suspect that your TV doesnt support NTSC as this is a common reason for B&W pictures in which case you need a DVD player that can convert it or its a good excuse for a new TV :) (I know, not very MSE)
