Police Lost Driving Licence, What To Do?

Am in a bit of a mess really. At end of January, I committed a driving offence, going through a red light. I was fined 60 pounds, asked to produce my driving license and my counterpart and had 3 points deducted from my licence. Fair enough.
I left my licence and counterpart at the police station and this is where the trouble started. I have yet to receive my documents, nearly three months after the offence.
Now, I have my old address on my driving licence and the policewoman told me that it would not be a problem since my actual address was on the paper counterpart that the policeman who issued the penalty gave me.
That document - which is now quickly fading because it is printed on thermal paper - doesn't contain any phone number or any email. What can I do!!!!! Help...

Have you phoned the police station concerned or DVLA? Normally points will be ADDED (they dont deduct points) in writing at the police staion and printed on the next one you get.

Hi Spiro. I haven't phoned the police station or the DVLA. I was thinking of actually filling in a lost card form instead.

Why did your photocard license have your old address on it?

Its an offence to not tell the DVLA of any change of address and have your license updated, failiure to do so can result in a fine of up to £1000.

    If all else fails...

Try and order a replacement licence due to change of address via the online service. They'll send you a new licence free of charge (they ask you to send the old one back but they never bother when you don't).

    It's Free :)

and had 3 points deducted from my licence.

Today's MSE top tip: If you've accrued points on your licence from driving misdemeanours simply drive through red lights.

Masterlumps, I suppose you're referring to DVLA, rather than the police

  • Well you may as well at least check that the police station don't still have your licence in a drawer somewhere, surely?

This may be a no-brainer, but could the court have sent your licence to the old address that was on it?

You'll probably find the Police will have sent your licence either to the local court for endorsement of the penalty points, it's the Court that applies them not the Police, or they'll have returned it to the DVLA, but I think as previous posters have said check with the police station concerned first and foremost, and just as Dave above has said if you haven't officially changed your address DVLA may have sent it there, with any luck though the new occupiers may have forwarded it marked Return to Sender, and DVLA is just waiting on hearing back from you.
