QLBCTRL.exe is the Hewlett Packard Quick Launch Button controls (http://www.whatsrunning.net/whatsrunning/QueryProcessID.aspx?Process=6981).

I'd check and see if there is anything in the Add/Remove programs list made by HP. If there is, remove it. If it is suppsed to be there (i.e. HP laptop, try downloading a newer version of whatever HP software is on it, uninstall and re-install).

If this fails, you could try stopping it starting and seeing what effect this has (i.e. see what breaks). This would mean it shouldn't be running to stop your PC shutting down.

    Go to Start/Run/Regedit

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop and set the value to 1.

this will auto end any task which come up as you are shutting down

Just to keep you updated. It is a new laptop. So I restored it to original setting. No problems with QLBCTRL.exe . Had installed firefox2, zonealarm, spybot, spyblaster, spyguard, AVG, ccleaner and adaware. Updated windows and firefox. No problems with QLBCTRL.exe when turning off the laptop.

The problem arises after updating the antivirus etc software. After successfully updating the antivirus etc software when i turn the laptop off the problem with QLBCTRL.exe appears.

To me the antivirus etc software is more important than QLBCTRL.exe which is for the hot keys. I happy to uninstall it. Just would be nice to know the cause of the problem.

Grateful for the replies above. Thanks
