Where to park in Bristol?!

Have just started my new job and am currently spending 3 weeks training in Bristol. All my expenses and travel will be repaid to me at the next payday, but in the meantime, it's going to cost me a small fortune which I can't totally afford.

I need to find the cheapest place to park/free place near BS1 5TY (centre of Bristol). I'm travelling from the Forest of Dean (GL17 9**) each day and will be put up in hotels when needed (back to back shifts).

Today was my first day and had to pay to park in the Millennium Gate car park...£13.50!!! For 8 and a bit hours!!!

Is there anywhere cheaper and just as local?

The nearest train station from me is 10 miles away and I can't reclaim that as mileage as it's the same distance as my usual restaurant destination. The cost on that would be £12 per day too so would actually be worse off due to no mileage allowance than driving down and parking.

Is there a Park and Ride anywhere nearby there which couold drop me off near the @Bristol Harbourside area? That's usually cheap is it not?

Please help, I don't know Bristol very well, other than Cabots Circus and Cribbs Causeway :o

Cheers! :)

If you get off the moterway at Avonmouth/M5 there is a park and ride on the Portway. Its £3.50 return last time I used it before 9am and it runs every 15min and takes about 20min to get to Cabot Circus but only 7min to get to @Bristol/Hippodrome as it uses a bus lane all the way down the Portway.

Most of the city centre car parks are £9+ all day. The only cheap parking is only avalible really if you are under 2hours in the city centre. That is unless somone has a drive you could borrow ;) If I were closer to the city centre you could have borrowed my drive :o

Edit - This is the carpark we use and its listed as £10 for 12hours so its a little bit of a saving on you £14.

    Great stuff, thank you :)

I'll give the Portway a bash tomorrow. Can I pay by debit card or will I need cash?

Noticed that the last bus to leave the City Centre is at 8:40pm which means some of the days I am there I won't be able to use it as I finish after 9pm :( so I will need to find that other car park you mentioned then and pay a bit less.

Where does the bus to return to Portway pick up from near the @Bristol Harbourside?

Thanks for the car space offer too, much appreciated ;)

The Portway is a pay on bus type thing so you will need cash. The days you finish at 9pm don't use the P&R because they lock the carpark up at night. You can get off and on about 2 metres from @Bristol otherwise you can get off outside the Hippodrome but you have to walk to @Bristol or back outside the insurance buildings to get back on, would you like a map?

The other car park is directly behind Colston Hall and is about 4min walk to @Bristol.

I live on a direct bus route but its about 30/45min to the Hippodrome on a good day. In rush hour I would guess 1hour+, I live not too far from the park and ride ;)

    Please! ;)

I'll be getting there for around 9:15am so will get the bus ASAP after that, need to be there for 10am so should have plenty of time hopefully. A 7 minute bus ride should be fine ;)

I'll just keep an eye out for a P&R to Portway for the return journey just outside the @Bristol area then :)

Thanks for your help pal! :T

So the Bus travels from the left along Hotwells road off towards the top right. The Green dots are stops to get off and the Red dots are stops to get on to come back top the P&R. Be aware there are many bus stops near @Bristol but look for the one with the dedicated P&R portway poster. The Pink dot is Trenchard street car park :D

Hope its not too big :o

    Hello,
I live in Bristol. There are places you can park if you are willing to walk about 20 mins to half an hour to BS1,let me know if you would like to know about them and I will send you a personal message( I might need to double check them first though)
Also which part of BS1 do you need to walk to?

Well it was all good, got there at 9:30am, on the P&R bus at 9:32am, at @Bristol for 9:50am :)

Thank you! Was really easy to get there and back, only hassle was waiting around for the 15mins bus on the way back, for £3.50 though I'm far from complaining!!! :)

    Highly recommended!
