  • Same thing happened to me with LLoyds Tsb a few months ago.
I checked my account online, and it said I was £8 under my overdraft limit. It was near the end of the month and I knew I had a Direct Debit of £25 going out the next day. I would have to raid the piggy banks around the house and pay in some cash. This I did, I paid in £30 in my lunch hour. This brought my ""available balance" to £38 - and I asked the cashier to write my balance down on my paying-in stub, - so the Direct Debit could go through without me exceeding my limit.

However, when I got home, I happened to look on the internet again, and low and behold, another debit transaction had been deducted as well as my DD, meaning I was about £6 over the limit! How could this be, this extra debit was not on my statement earlier when I had checked. This is a really sneaky trick, because had I known this other payment was going out, I could have paid in enough cash to cover this too.
I went into the bank again and asked how this could be, and the cashier said amounts were taken out of your account at various times during the day! This is news to me!!! I was under the age-old impression that all transactions in and out in a day were noted and totalled at the 'close of business' for that day, giving just 1 figure.
She said I would not incur a charge as I was less than £10 over the limit, but that's not the point, as I pointed out to her, that the principle was wrong, as I could have paid in a higher amount if I had known the correct figures for that day.

    Hi

In case it's useful ...... I have had a leaflet from lloyds a few weeks ago saying that they are going to start charging as soon as you go overdrawn, rather than giving you £10 grace. I don't know if that is the same for all accounts at lloyds but if so it may be you would have been charged anyway for going £2 over (which is unfair!!). It's probably worth a call to see if there is anything they can do.

Thankyou everyone. I understand that everyone was trying help, telling me I shouldn't have spent money I didn't have-which I wouldn't of usually but I needed to and the more I thought about it the more annoyed I got!
I had been in credit when I went to kwiksave of £88, but I knew that dd and some payments were due to go out so hadn't counted this money in available money which is why I was saying paid on tues should come out on thurs, anyway, I emailed tsb and they said basically the same as someone else said "transactions are taken out at different time of the day now" but I also have a text message from lloyds tsb dated the 29/11/06 with all my transactions on and it goes back to the 27/11/06 and it says I am in credit, so far it does not say I am getting charged but if it does I am keeping text as evidence!
ANYHOW .....I am in credit today and all bills paid so feeling a little more relaxed...until sunday when we go xmas shopping

I cancelled my lloyds tsb bank account a good few years ago and so glad I did. Although most of them are all the same, but Lloyds areWORSE.

More and more people are now succesful in claiming back unfair or over the top charges.
