How long does it take?

Hi all,

Great message board. Think I will give this a go.

How long does it take roughly to get the money back?

I'm going after credit crads from Lloyds, HSBC, Egg, A&L, MBNA and Cap One.

I also have Current Accounts with A&L and HSBC.

Anywhere from straight away if they pay immediately to months if it drags on.

If you do everything as per the instructions, the average is probably about 6 weeks.

I would say the average was a bit longer than 6 weeks (you give them this long to send your statements in the first instance).

I would have thought somewhere between 2 to 3 months is around average (maybe a bit longer (3 to 4 months) depending on how far the bank takes you down the court process)

Some peope get first replies where money is refuned as a goodwill gesture.

Others are dragged through the process but stick to Martin's article and you'll get there, and don't forget that interest is refunded too. :D

Yer Rex, it's hard to judge the timescale, there are so many factors. Some people already have their lists of charges and don't request statements, some people take money at pre-court stages, others settle as soon as court procedures start. Not all claimants stick rigidly to the timetable. The banks don't always take the maximum time to send correspondance. Maybe a good process is 6 weeks and 8 weeks is closer to the average.

The time to receive money has increased from when I made my first claim at the beginning of this year. Now banks tend to hold out longer, until a court claim has been made, whereas before many were coughing up without actually taking the legal action.

I'm claiming for 4 different people at the moment (and starting another 2 this weekend). I'm at various stages with these.......one at court, two in the middle stages, and waiting for statements on one. So far, it's looking like all of these are going to the court stage. When I'm starting each claim for the person, I tell them they are looking at around 3 to 4 months from the beginning (including DPA request).
