the sooner people realise this the better, they use cheap parts over inflate the prices, hire your basic andy to work for them.
they are trained to use shock and ore tactics for customers to part with thier money, even more cheaky fit things without consent, because they know you trust what they say because the avarage person isnt mecky minded and their a "mechanic".
i firmly believe that there should be some sort of mechanics extra corricular in secondary school, not only will a person come away with some skills in being able to service a car themselfs but the knowladge that parts on thier car need replacing or not.0 -
I never use dealer or big brand named garages. I much prefer local garages who would care about your repeat custom - although not all locals are good of course.
When I bought my car (2nd hand) I took it to VW for a full service, I only wanted to keep the VW history - not only did they try to do work that didn't need doing, I refused, they never took my wheels off at all. When I had a puncture I could not get the wheels off as the bolts had seized! I ended up having to lower the car (using the jack) onto the handle to un-seize it. I could have called the breakdown, but that's just me.0 -
Slightly of Op topic but i went to a fast fit centre (not Kwik Fit) but very similar many many years ago for a tyre & the guy came in the waiting room & said that i would also need a front shock absorber as he noticed it was leaking oil whilst removing the wheel.
At this point i spoke with the so called branch "specialist" who also advised on the problem & gave me a price for parts & labour!.......
Some people have a bloody cheek & when i advised them both that it was impossible for any of the shock absorbers to have an oil leak they looked at me in surprise & i continued to tell them that the car was fitted with Spax Gas filled shocks - needless to say i didnt buy a tyre from them & drove away with the flat in the boot but i wonder what the other customers were thinking when in the waiting room listening to the conversation!
So the moral of the story would be to avoid such rapid fit centres & if you think your getting ripped off seek a 2nd opinion. You can't be lost if you don't know where you're going.0
