Lidl chopped tomatoes are fab 33p ish,Farm Foods I think 4 for £1 also v. good but my local Asda has had Don Mario c/toms for 15p a can:T I'd never heard of them but they're really good .It says rrp is 56p and they are definately as good as the others I've mentioned.
I've never tried passata always assumed it would have thickeners/additives.0 -
I use passata to make Tomato, Lentil and Basil soup. I always used Sainsbury's bottled until I discovered the cartons in Aldi at 29p - so no contest! As far the taste of the soup goes, there is no difference."If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"0

Another passata convert here! A carton of passata, pinch of salt & pepper and a handful of chopped basil from the garden makes a fabulous (and very cheap!) pasta sauce. Extra nice if you stir in some mascarpone as well...Team Pink! Baby girl due 25/5/140

The tesco passata cartons are recyclable and contents 99 percent tomato, salt and acidity.0

I keep a carton of passata in the fridge from Sainsburys and find it an excellant base for pasta sauce and a lot cheaper than tinned toms.Best of all is if there is a glut of toms and they sell off the slightly battered toms cheaply then I get what I can and make my own pasta sauce for pennies instead0
