Hotels.com- pay at time of booking?

Hello,

Quick question- I had to give my credit card details for a Hotels.com booking today, so does that mean that they take the money immediately or do I pay when I arrive at the hotel? It's not altogether clear looking at my email confirmation and I don't want to pay twice!

Last time I booked with Hotels.com to New York I paid at time of booking.

Your hotel booking is prepaid and charged at time of booking. Any additional charges incurred during your stay will be charged directly by the hotel on check out.

That's how it's always worked for me.

Same here - always paid up front with hotels.com then just show the confirmation email / reference number to the hotel when you check in.

Also worth noting is that sometimes the rate you get can be cancelled, sometimes not depending on the T&Cs shown at the time of booking. I had to cancel a room (booked as a refundable rate) with them once after a change of plans and they just refunded the money I'd paid to my credit card no problems.
