Edit : Think I may have put this on the wrong part of the forum. If I have I am sorry.

My Morphy Richards breadmaker is getting to the end of its life - I can hear the motor starting to struggle :(. It has been well used since I got it just 8 months ago from a charity shop for £20 - it makes at least 1 2lb white loaf, 1 2lb wholewheat loaf and 1 2lb cinnamon fruit loaf a week - and it looked well used when I got it. It has more than paid for itself which is brilliant as I got it to see if a breadmaker was worth it - I found out the answer is YES so it was certainly £20 well spent.

I would like to buy new this time as I would like to know my next one will last a good while.
I really want a breadmaker that has a fruit, nut, seed dispenser as when I make a loaf with those in it at the moment I have to hang around the machine until the beeps sound which is agrovating to say the least.

So things the breadmaker needs to have
  • fruit, nut, seed dispenser
  • jam function
  • dough function
  • delay function
  • keep warm function
  • extra bake
One thig that I would prefer but don't need is a veiwing window. I get really nosey and like to see what is going on if I am neer the breamaker :o.

I was thinking about the MR premium and have found it for £81.14 including P&P but this is quite a lot of money to us. Also although I mostly do 2lb loaves I want the option of doind 1lb/1.5lb loaves and preferably have them at 'normal' bread height which I don't think the MR I'm looking at does :(. I want to make sure that the breadmaker we get is worth it.

I would really like recommendations of a breadmaker that ticks all the things I need and is a good price.

Have a look on the Old Style board, think you will get a lot more help from there. How about a Panasonic BM? There are lots of BM threads on the old style board. HTH

  • I love my Panasonic SD255 - the one with the nut dispenser - it gets consistently good reviews and is/was a Goodhouse Keeping recommend.

Panasonic all the way for me. They are bringing out new models in May so are starting to mark down current versions. So should be able to pick one up at reasonable price.
  • After looking at more breadmakers I think I am going to get a Panasonic .
I'm torn between the SD255 and the SD257. Is there a really big difference between these other than the price? By the way looking through them it looks like you can do rye bread with both of these which is amazing - my dad loves rye bread and it will be nice to bake him a loaf every now and then :). They are both not cheap but if they are as good as they seem then I will 'overlook' that at it will save me money longterm.

I'm hoping peopleon here will help me decide which one to get. When something is not cheap I have a habit of leaving it for as long as possible. Only problem is that I don't want to take so long that my current bread maker does give up the ghost and I have no replacement . I would resent paying the £1+ easy for a decent loaf that in truth isn't as good anyway.

If you really want the jam function and can afford to pay the extra, it looks like one the new Panasonic models will have a jam and compote function according to their webpage: http://www.panasonic.co.uk/html/en_GB/News/Latest+News/New+Breadmaker+Line-up+for+2011/7176183/index.html

My family has been using a Panasonic breadmaker for 4 years now and it's brilliant.

Oh wow! I have a feeling my savings are going to take a bigger dent than I intended :o - that is how I'm getting the breadmaker so I do have the money I'm just not wanting to go into them more than I *need* to if that makes sense. The new models coming out sound amazing. Saying that I don't know how long my current bread maker is going to keep going for. I suppose if the breadmaker does break down before the new one I can always get my partner to do loads of loaves, rolls, pizza bases by hand :undecided. He can bake 4 loaves in the oven and a pizza base or 10-12 rolls at a time. However the main function of the breadmaker is to help ease the load on him as he works and also cares for me. The breadmaker does a lot to help him as it makes bread, does the dough for pizza bases/rolls etc, makes jam and this takes away his time if he has to do it himself - this is time I'd rather see him relaxing if he can.

Yes stardust09 I really would like a jam function. I love jam and hate spending the amount it can cost for really good jam. I use reduced fruit to make the jam I so I get a really good jam for cheaper that way :).

Oh dear, big decision now, sd255, sd257, SD-2501WXC or the SDZB-2502. This decision on what breadmaker is getting harder it seems and not easier :rotfl:

Looks like SDZB-2502 is out now but to be honest I am pretty disappointed. I was really looking forward to seeing this "ultimate breadmaking machine" as they advertised it but it seems that the only difference between this model and the SD-2501WXC which was out in April is the colour and yeast dispenser. No fan assisted baking, no bigger engine, no viewing window... not what I was hoping for :(

I have the Panasonic SD-2500WXC, and it suits me fine.. although it doesn't have the nut and raisin dispenser that I thought it might have

You also have to juggle about and experiment with different types of flours!
