ACCOUNTS DEPARTMENT ISSUING BILLS FOR OUTRAGEOUS AND INCORRECT AMOUNTS

I wonder if there are any other British Gas and Electricity Consumers out there who have received over the past 12 months incorrect and outrageous bills?

Our payments to BG are all done on a Monthly Direct Debit which takes into account the usage of both Gas and Electricity over a 12 month period.

Approx 9 Months ago we received notification from British Gas that within 4 days they were going to take £3000 plus out of our direct debit account, this is despite the fact that they withdraw on direct debit a monthly sum tro cover the gas and electricity bill.

It took approx six hours of telephone calls to the British Gas Accounts Department , never of course being able to speak with the same person or for that matter to speak with someone in Authority who would hopefully know what was going on .

I got the distinct impression that the British Gas Accounts Department was in a state of chaos as it became evident that one never got any consistant response.

In conclusion at the end of six hour I did manage to get someone to admit this is silly you are paying by direct debit anyway . The Units used tallied with the amount paid by direct debit so there is no call to take any extra money.

Yesterday we received yet another letter from British Gas saying that they were going to take £4000 out of the direct debit account.

How long have I got to suffer dealing with such a Company.

Another four hours on the telephone today with all the same Palaaver that I had some eleven months ago. I have not yet got a satisfactory answer from them and no doubt tomorrow morning I will have another marathon half day on the telephone.

Anyone out there experiencing any similar problems?
How can we fix this once and for all?

    Welcome to the forum.

    Write, write, write, don't phone! An email followed up by a snail mail copy.

    The fact that you are paying by Direct Debit doesn't prevent them taking a lump sum from your account as you have signed a variable Direct Debit. However they normally increase your monthly payments to cover any debit balance; and of course £3k or £4k is a joke(we hope!)

    Is someone entering an incorrect meter reading?
