Hi
I am a prospective masters student, got my unconditional offer today!
I am also currently unemployed. Do you think it will be possible for me to get a student card earlier than September, as I am guaranteed a place.
Just thinking it will make various bits cheaper if I can get a discount now and again.
Also I am looking a additional funding for various elements of my course; but haw do people define 'hardship' If i don't get funding to get a bus pass I won't be able to go....does that count?
Thanks for looking.:T

you won't get a card until you are registered as a student.
hardship funds are difficult to get at the moment. they usually go to people who have unexpected circumstances that cause hardship though.
i'd focus on getting any possible work full-time between now and september as that is the best way to get some money saved up.
funding a masters can end up being harder than getting on the course in the first place. good luck!:happyhear0 -
You definitely won't be able to get your student card until you have enrolled on the course which will mean committing to paying the fees.
Check with your University that post-graduate students are eligible to apply for hardship loans/payments. The University where I worked up until last year specifically excluded post-grads.
As the previous poster said, getting onto the course is the easy bit.

A university cannot exclude postgrads from ALF payments, however they can work to a different criteria in making awards.
OP, how are you funding the course fees, and what do you intend to live off?Gone ... or have I?0 -

Echoing this. I've decided to go back to the OU to do my Masters in Classical Studies - and I have a full time job!
Just received my registration confirmation email for an introductory course in Reading Classical Latin, starting in October. :beer:0
