I bought my house in 2005 and have had my baxi bermuda back boiler serviced every year since under a homecare agreement. Could you not replace the gas fire with an electric flame one, just for effect? I am sure Baxi's latest Bemuda range of condensing HE boilers have an electric front now instead of gas, could your fireplace be "retrofitted"?
