Hi all,
We are considering changing our kitchen around due to our current cooker being below the worktop. This is causing a safety issue due to my ds just standing to crawl. The only place that we could change it to is near the fridge/freezer. Please could you let me know if this is wise?
Many thanks in advance

Not the best place to put a fridge as it will have to work a lot harder when ever your oven is on.
If it is unavoidable leave a gap and find some sort of insulation to put against the side of the fridge nearest to the oven. You could try the silver stuff used behind radiators as you want the heat reflected away from the fridge. Still leave a bit of a gap between oven and insulation.
I am not qualified in any way, so hopefully someone more knowledgeable will come on with some techie answers soon.0 -
You do not say whether they are free standing or integrated appliances. Always consult the technicals from the relevant manufacturers. However generally you can place them next to each other. The fridge will have to work harder, but with modern a rated appliances this should not cost too much more over the year. If this is your only choice then its ok. Integrated applainces with a quality, ie18mm carcase kitchen, will also help and ensure adequate ventilation so there is the minimum crossover.0

Our fridge has been standing nexed to the gas oven for the last 14 years. ( Not the same fridge though)I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0

Just thought I would add my tuppence worth. When we replaced our kitchen last year, I took out a built-in oven with microwave above and replaced it with a built-under model as I actually prefer these and it gives a more streamlined look I feel.
My younger two are pretty adept in the door opening, button-pressing, wonder what this one does?, kind of thing but I've found with all three that the latest fascination is always just a phase, soon to be replaced with another. In fact the youngest spent a few weeks pulling open the bottom oven door and being pulled down on to his bottom. After that he hasn't given it a second look. I worried about having front knobs on my gas hob but went ahead as that was the model I wanted. That has never been a problem.
I would just go with the optimum layout for your kitchen rather than compromising and if all else fails pop a stairgate on for a few months. After all, hopefully your new kitchen will last a lot longer than the inquisitive toddler phase!0 -
My fridge is next to my oven too. Considering how little your oven is used compared to your fridge it won't make much difference.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Untill I changed my kitcen around last year I had our under worktop fridge next to our built-under oven for five years without a problem!"...IT'S FRUITY!"0

Ovens are pretty well insulated these days-- I don't think you should really worry.0

Yes ours is, but it will reduce the fridge's efficiency a little.
Not worth worrying about i would say.0
