Don't scrap it, give it to the Fire Brigade
Not strictly a money saving tip but one that will help those who save lives.
Daughter's 1990 Clio recently suffered what looked like a head gasket failure but, of course, could have been worse. As the prospect of spending £500 to try and fix a £250 car didn't appeal (and she quite fancied a new car anyway) it was time to bid it farewell.
I thought of eBaying it as it still ran but it looked like being a lot of hassle for a small return. Then somebody mentioned that the Fire Brigade were often looking for old cars so they could practice crashing them and cutting people out etc.
Sure enough we rang the local training school who were more than happy to take the car off our hands.
So, next time you're looking to scrap a vehicle because it's uneconomical to repair, give them a thought. You even end up with a nice feeling that you've done something helpful

What an excellent idea.
I keep telling my missus that we should scrap her car,as it's a 1997 Micra, purely and simply because it's Japanese.........

In MSE style though, did the Fire Bridage give you any money for it?
If you had taken it to a scrapyard, you could have got upto £50 for it.0 -
No, I didn't get any money for it. Local scrapyards didn't seem interested either and, as I said, eBaying didn't appeal on this occasion.
I did sell a K-reg car with a suspected cracked head on eBay a couple of months back - got £735 for it! But it wasn't a Clio

I think you're right. There have been times in my life when I've had no money and others when I've had quite a lot. It's never made a great deal of difference to how happy I've felt. Can I help?0
