Switching From Ntl To Bulldog

We want to switch our broadband from ntl to Bulldog. Bulldog say they cannot provide internet unless we have their landline too. We agreed. Now they say we cannot keep our number unless we are changing to them from BT. If we go to BT and then to Bulldog we face a massive cancellation fee. Anyone know a way round this please?

BT will let you cancel a residential contract for a maximum fee of £18. Details are towards the bottom of this page in the BT Price List.
Can I ask why you want to move to Bulldog? (I used to be a customer)
Its residential customers recently been taken over/brought by Pipex...

Make sure you know what you are doing.. I've got family that USED to be with Bulldog, but have recently left... They were not happy at all with the service they received.
Also remember with bulldog you get UP to Xmb, and usually its about 50% of what they claim.. From my experience if NTL say 4mb, you get 4mb..0 -
DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT! DON'T DO IT!
I hope I'm not too late!
I'm with Bulldog and I wish I was not.
I have had two problems with them: first they charged me £30 instead of £20 a month, and then my microfilter started playing up.
These two problems are pretty unusual, and I doubt they are symptomatic of a company-wide failing at Bulldog.
The CONSISTENTLY INEPT AND IMBECILIC CUSTOMER SUPPORT I had to wade through in order to try and get these problems resolved, however, is symbolic, and to me demonstrates that bulldog should be avoided if at all possible.
Please, please, please avoid this company - if you sign up and are lucky and nothing goes wrong, you may get a good value service out of them, but as soon as anything stops working, nobody at Bulldog is competent to fix anything.
I am well aware my experience is one person's tale to tell, but I feel that since I have had so much contact with so many different representatives of the company, I am in a better position to comment on the customer service than most.0 -

I cannot agree with this more. There are possibly the worst company I have ever dealt with.
This all started when I applied for my new house at the end of August. They were having lots of problems back then and people were waiting over a month for an installation date, so I decided I wanted to cancel.
Still to date I am waiting for a refund of £99.00. Their customer service is diabolical, really.
I put in a complaint with their complaints department 2 weeks ago, saying I was giving them a week to refund me as they had broken Distance Selling Regulations (even though I wasn't sure if they applied). Within 2 days I had an email saying they would refund within 14 days.
Today, I received 2 emails from them saying that my installation was booked for 2/1/2007!!!! And that if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay £60.
This is nearing 100 days after originally cancelling. I can't ring their Customer Service team again because I get nowhere with them, they all tell me the same thing, that I have to wait 28 days for a refund....I've been told that about 5 times....
It's a joke. I'm sending letters to trading standards and putting a claim through a small claims court soon.
I really don't know what else to do.
Obviously, some people may have good experiences with Bulldog, but I seriously suggest you look up online about what some people say about them, as I have only read terrible comments.
If you can try and get out of it and go with BT and company through a BT line. Although not perfect, anything is better than these.0 -
I third that!
Can't be bothered to share the full story, too much typing, but what I will say is their customer service is horrendous whereas I've heard no such complaints about NTL
As said above if you never have a single problem you'll be ok and save money, but otherwise... ! don't do it0 -
Ditto to all the above comments, I'm having major issues with Bulldog at the moment due to a "distorted truth" being told to me at the beginning of my contract which led to me not being billed for 5 months resulting in my being trapped on their £40 a month service and now having to pay a further £55 on top of that a month to cover the arrears, if I try to lower my monthly bill I will be trapped in a 12 month contract with them, I do NOT want that!!! Seriously stay clear of this company, their customer service is diabolical. Grrrrrr..._________0

Thanks to you all. Still haven't changed as we had to change phone line from ntl to BT first and now tied up to BT Internet for 12 months! Only just checked your replies though and will show them to my son. He's in an office of computer geeks and some of his mates recommended Bulldog. He thinks it will be faster but ALL companies seem to say we cannot get high speed because of our distance from the exchange so he'd probably be disappointed just from that point of view!
:TThis form is so useful. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to help others.0
