Credit card switching dilemma

in Credit cards
OK, so hubby and I both have credit cards, which we've had for aaaaages. His is a Natwest standard credit card, mine is a Marks and Spencer credit card.
We each spend about £1000 to £1500 a month, so fairly well used and we pay off the balance each month so don't have any debt.
Hubby gets a piddling amount of airmiles on his card - never seems to amount to anything decent as I think he gets something stupid like 1 airmile for every £10 spent so at this rate we might get to Paris in the next 10 years!!
I get the M&S vouchers back depending on how much is spent, which is fine, but given the amount we each spend I feel like we should be getting more for our money!
I've considered us both swapping to an Amex BA Premium Plus credit card, which would earn us really good airmiles and would also allow us a free companion ticket if we redeem our airmiles on a flight (as long as we spend £10k per year, which we currently do). If we both took one of these and then spent our usual monthly balance on the card we could then redeem a flight on each card and get an extra ticket per card (for the children) which could basically allow us a flight to somewhere fairly decent each year for nothing. (Though granted each card has a £150 a year fee).
Are there other cards offering better rewards and does anyone have one of these Amex cards and does the whole system work? I don't want to get caught in a credit card that actually ends up being worse than the one I've got on the pretext of some fantastic offer that never really materialises!
Any advice greatly received from all you credit card experts out there!
