Hi Everyone,
I was declared br in June 09 and received ED early Dec 09.
My careeer history is banking and mortgages and despite looking for a job outside of banking for almost a year I have had no joy in anything customer service or sales related despite having loads of experience and the salaries being way less than I used to earn as a Mortgage Advisor.
Last night whilst looking for jobs I saw a Sales role advertised locally at a major banks call centre and thought well what the hell and applied.
First thing today I had a voicemail from them to book in for a telephone interview. During the online application it asked if I had CCJs or Defaults to which I clicked no but obviously I am an undischarged bankrupt.
I really need a job and nobody will take me seriously in anything other than banking and banks won't have me because of bankruptcy! I know declaring br was for the best in my circumstances but I really am at a loss now.
I'm applying for jobs I can do, I have a good CV, a good telephone manner etc but I'm getting nowhere!
sorry to rant but I have no one else to talk to about it. I feel like my life has been on a permanent hold and I'm getting nowhere fast. I can't get a house until I save a huge deposit and I can't start saving until I get a job.

If it didn't ask you the specific question "are you or have you ever been BR" or include BR in the CCJ/defaults question then maybe you have a chance with this one.
Keep your fingers crossed.
Maybe you would have better luck applying for accounts office jobs in private companies? I'm not sure what level you were at within banking, but there must be a crossover point. Just thinking out loud, hope it helps. When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

If you get the job offer and fingers crossed you will... You may get checked by their HR using a company that checks out employees, this happened to me, first page of their forms, have you ever been bankrupt!! I phoned my new HR told them and they asked me to write with a description why etc.. I did that and got the job anyway.. Just to make you aware.. I reckon once you're made the offer they are unlikely to change their minds. Good luck mate.Bankruptcy and Supporters club... Member 340.

Thanks guys,
I'm on my phone and the thanks button has disappeared!
I know when I've looked into large banks after br they have said no when I tell them up front because 'you need a bank account with us' but I have a bank acc with this company already and it's not a regulated role.
I do hope I get it. I know I'm mad but I miss working in banking....or is it just that I want what I can't have?!
Ineedaname - I have applied for all sort of jobs but am hardly even getting a look in. I had an interview 3 weeks ago for a customer services job and they didn't even bother to get back to me.Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

There's so many people applying for jobs atm that it will take time, interviews are only the next step. I have worked in HR departments as a temp many times over and seen the sheer volume of applicants they get in a recession. That's why you rarely get a rejection letter purely on application now, but I do think it's rude not to write after an interview as they whittle it down to a manageable number of people to interview and the cost of a rejection letter to each but the successful applicant isn't a big hit to the company. Unless of course they were interviewing for 20 jobs and saw 100 candidates! When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

Agreed, as a recruiting manager I advertised a NMW position for 4 days on the company website, with no other visibility I had 237 applicants to screen. Our rejection letters are automatically generated and sent via email. I'd love to have a more personal system but the cost implications would probably mean a reduction in my payroll budget.
Tailor each application to each company and position, take great care in filling in the forms. When looking at such a volume of applications details really matter. If your getting to interview stage you are doing really well! I'm sure something will cone along for you soon. Good luck

Hi
I've just had my telephone interview and I think it went well. I will find out in 2-3days though.
However, they did mention that a credit check will be completed prior to a face to face interview so I'm guessing that's blown any chances.
The stupid thing is I used to work for this bank at the height if my debt problems and that was fine but now I'm actually solvent it won't be!Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

Good luck, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you.
However, as you know you will 'fail' any credit check anyway, it might be an idea to have a chat with them. Check out Worcsman's comments in post 3 - it worked for him! When I joined, I needed a name. The forum members gave one to me...I am INAN

You need to turn your BR into a plus point. Ring/write to HR along the lines of...(I am sure someone can word this better)
many people are struggling in the recession. Your own experience of debt and eventual bankruptcy provides useful experience of coming to terms with responsible financial behaviour. This allows you to empathise with the customers better than people who have not gone through this expereince.
You will be happy to provide further details of your BR if required.
Much better to find out now if BR is a no no or if someone further up the chain can grant an exemption from the usual rule.
Good luck.
