I need some help and advice.
I am a current policy holder with an Irish insurance company and I am looking to change my car. When I entered the cars details into their system it says there will be no change in premiums. I cant understand why it wont come down. I did a quote on 2 of the insurance search engines and got the same type of results (although one company asked for £9,000 over the year!)
I currently drive an 03 Mondeo 1.8LX and have 2 years no claims (actually have 14 years but a previous employment paid my insurance and I couldnt transfer it to my current policy)
I am 33 years old and never made a claim in my life. I live in an area where premiums are increased slightly but this isnt the issue.
The car I am buying is an 04 Citroen C3 XTR which is newer, has more safety features, more secure, lower mileage, lower BHP, lower top speed, smaller car and higher MPG. Surely these must add up to a lower premium?
I called the insurance quote and all they could say was that because it was a smaller car, it was lighter on the road and if I hit water then the smaller car would move faster than a Mondeo!
I look forward to any replies as this is a deal stopper, the reason I was going for a smaller car was to reduce my insurance premiums and fuel costs. These currently cost me £126 a month on insurance and about the same in petrol. I had to justify a change of car to the wife. If its going to stay the same then I might as well keep the Mondeo and go on holiday to the Bahamas instead!

The Citreon is not necessarily a better risk and also when you obtain new quotes, they will be based on increased rates.
If the Citreon was involved in a minor accident, I would think the panel parts would be more expensive than a Ford of a similar age. So the engine might have less performance, but costs of any repairs might be higher. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -

Now that makes sense, but with my excess it would be me that pays for most of that anyway! lol

I'd be keeping the Mondeo, if there is nothing seriously wrong with it.0

The car is having issues with the handbrake and rear brake caliper, had it fixed twice so far, 2nd time after it failed the MOT. Its passed now but ive lost confidence in it.
I do 160 miles a week driving and its costing me £40 a week in petrol.
I want to get rid, the wife doesnt, but I am VERY picky when it comes to buying cars lol
Only 4 cars have got my attention, a Merc C class that is higher insurance, a jaguar thats higher on fuel costs and insurance, a Renault Megane CC thats about the same on fuel and insurance or the C3 XTR thats same insurance but lower tax and fuel. Also the Jag and Merc would be wrong in my area, some people would see it and think I have money and break into my house! lol

Just followed the instructions on here on how to reduce your premiums and managed to get it down to a more acceptable £110 a month lol Or even £77.80 if I fit a tracker and keep below 6,000 miles (which I wont lol)
