Cat ID Tags?

Do you cat owners have ID tags on your pets collar? If so what do you have on it?

My cat Mia wears a collar, doesn't have an ID tag but is chipped.

I am thinking of getting her a tag, but not sure what to put on it. Is it wise to have her name on, or even put on there that she's chipped?

I never really see the point of puting your pets name on it to be honest. Great for the person who finds it to know what its called but not much good to you for getting it back.

I put - 'I'm Microchipped' and then my mobile number. That way they know they can contact me using the number or take them to the vets/ rescue and ask them to scan the microchip.

Its also a deterent if someone fancies stealing your cat if they know its microchipped ;)

  • Ours has a collar saying that she's microchipped.

She used to have a tag with our phone number on, but then we moved and we haven't bothered getting a new tag.

    Thanks for your replies.

I wasn't overly keen on putting her name on as the other poster said because I wouldn't want a strange person to entice her away.

The "I'm microchipped" sounds like the way to go. :)

When I have had my dogs chipped, the vet has given me a free "Scan me. I have an identichip" metal tag for their collars. Perhaps ask if your vet has any?

I used to get my cats collars from www.kittycollars.co.uk

I used to have them print our phone number and 'Don't Feed' on it.

I dont value the tags for cats. They seem to lose them too quickly!!

i have two kittycollaresq collars for my indoor cats, even though they are both indoors. currently just have their name and phone number on them (gifts from parents).

work great, really happy with it, and it comes with a matching coloured bell!

if they did go outside, i would put something along the lines of need medication, diabetic, microchipped etc...
  • I have my mobile number on one side and my address on the other. I use safety collars for my cats and they do lose them every now and then which is annoying as they're not cheap, but by putting my address on I have had a couple of the collars put through the letter box by whoever found them!

They are microchipped as well though.

I have address, mob no, 'i am microchipped' and vets no - has worked in the past - have had someone phone me when fluffball wandered into their house, and have had lost collars hung on my front door handle!

used to have pets name (in fact prob still do on the pooch - she doesnt tend to loose her collar lol), but have been put off for the reasons mentioned above.

PS - The vets on my pets tag know to do whatever is needed if they cannot contact me
I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.
