Fault insurance claim

Hi,
Just want to some advise. I've taken insurance with Direct Line this January as I needed business cover for work. Previously was a named driver as it was cheaper because I'm 23.
Had my first car accident on a roundabout, liabilty given to me but when i asked if the insurance will go up next year, they said no as i don't have any NCD and it's my first year. But I'm sceptical about it. But if I even changed insurance next year, my accident fault claim will be on the data base so my insurance can still go up with other insurance companies right? Sorry for the dumb question :p
And also if you know a more economic fuel effecient apart from the Aygo and it has to be a small car btw (1 litre engine ideally), let me know please!
Thanks in advance.
x

    Yes it will go up.
The no claims discount won't change (still 0%) but the base premium will go up quite a bit.

They assume you are now more likely to have another crash so more risk. It will be dearer.

More fuel efficient than what? Honda 90 cub?

It will go up - I have two fault claims on my record and it's not pretty :o

As for efficiency - it depends on what type of driving you do. I regularly get 50MPG from my 1.0 Picanto which will be similar to your Aygo however show it some hilly bendy roads where you're relishing the few straight bits to boot it past tourists in hire cars and that drops considerably.
  • Yes it will go up. Even if you were sat in your car parked in a supermarket car park with the engine off and someone drove into you, your premium would still go up if your insurance company knows about it. Even if it was found your were 0% at fault your are deemed more of a risk, completely stupid in IMHO.

Thanks guys. I got an second opinion with private insurance solicitors and I'm going challenge the fault-claim as my insurance (Direct Line)made an decision on my diagriams only. If I knew the diagrams were more important then my statement, I'd got it reviewed by the solicitors etc but they didn't even bothered to check with 3rd party so wish me luck. I'll update if I'm successfull.
The other thing is I been told if DirectLine engineer thinks the car damage quotation is too 'high' they will ask me to go somewhere else. Cos I told them my local Toyota dealer quoted me £1200 for my car repair. I mean I pay about £100 a month for my comprehensive insurance and my car got hit another car on aroundabout, atleast I can choose which garage I want to get my car to be repaired. I want it with Toyota cos my car is a Toyota!!! Any advise please l#say so, thanks in advance.

You SHOULD be able to take it anywhere you want however they may ask for 3 quotes instead of just 1.

My car cost over £2000 to fix at the insurer's approved repairer :rotfl: (I had to use them because my insurer at the time imposed an additional £200 excess if you went anywhere else)
