ID for a 15 year old

My daughter has a YoungScot card. She got it through school. She's 15 and now on her 2nd card. It didn't cost us anything. Not much use if you're in London though! She couldn't get in to see a 15 film without it. http://www.youngscot.org/smartcards/
I would've thought there was a nationwide scheme similar to this. I'm surprised there isn't.0 -
They are not supposed to remove 'vulnerable' passengers, which a 15 yo would be
a 15yr old who has no proof that they are not an adult
if they had some form of id on them to show to the ticket inspectors, they would be able to use that to get a child ticket
also, the main station by me has staffed ticket barriers, so how would someone deal with that?0 -

Also my bright 19 yo lost his driving licence at a club night and is now using his passport for ID. I'm wondering how long it will be before he loses that!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
mine had a Validate card - which costs £15 but was worth it for the reasons you've mentioned already. It will soon pay for itself in savings from adult fare train rides.:)
Check your local Trading Standards office - they sometimes do promotions to try and get the take up of these cards increased - perhaps they are doing cheap deals?Bern :j0 -
Why not just get a colour photocopy of the passport page that shows his Date of Birth and his photo, cut the photocopy down to size and laminate it so it will last and he can keep it in his wallet.0

Or in 3 years time when he's gonna want to go out for a drink or go see an 18 rated movie or comes across someone in Asda/Tesco who points to their challenge 21/25 rule which says he has to show ID. I understand you want to avoid paying for something - but ultimately this is one of the situations where it's not actually all that sensible to avoid payment as it WILL pay for itself in time.
Some really good ideas in this thread but I think we will bite the bullet and get the ID card for £15 - it WILL be worth it in train fares for the next year, there will be no query on photo not looking like him as we will have one done now so will look like him (unlike his passport photo!) The £15 investment will only last probably for a year as at 16 he can apply for a student ID card and will then have a provisional licence, which is what DD's carry as ID. It was just, being and MSE'er, I was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a cheaper option0
