Tescos: Out of stock when item on sale price, back in stock when sale ends

Annoyed. Have some tesco clubcard points and need a new lawnmower. Other half did some searching (I have no interest in the garden) and came up with a specific Flymo model. Did a search and Tesco cheapest. Normal price £70 they had it on sale at £53. went to order but guess what its out of stock. They would email when back. Phoned local big stores but no stock there.
Now today its back in stock but how surprising the sale is over and its £70.

Flymo turbo lite 330, yes? It doesn't help with your Tesco issue, but Argos look to be one of the cheapest places for this mower at the moment (£60).
It's very irritating when sales goods are out of stock... happens a lot in our local Sainsbury too :-/0 -
Argos do this all the time too.
Be careful as one of the Flymo models had really bad reviews.0 -
I've a friend that gets a voucher at customer services to honour the sale price if it has been out of stock.0

Slightly off topic I know, but not long ago Tesco did a really good Washing Power offer...suffice to say I couldn't find it in stock anywhere so I asked my friend who works there to investigate...he tried to order some in for his store, alas he couldn't and all the stock was in one warehouse location and it came up with a code. When he enquired about this code it turned out that it meant the offer was proving too costly and all the stock had been "hidden" in a warehouse somewhere until the offer expired!0

Think thats b/s. No company is allowed to offer any item on a promotional sale without sufficent levels of stock being in place unless it is actually a clearance item in which it has to be stated (whilst stocks last)
Also you will find that any company can alter its prices/offers in less than 12 hours. Why would they 'hide' the stock when they could just stop the offer. Also most companies make a loss on certain items. AKA loss leader. This is to draw in customers who are likely to then purchase items with a much higher mark up(i know b&q used to sell fence panels at a loss of 7p per panel, however the clips required to hold the panel made 54p). As post #4 suggests if the op had been a bit more savvy he should've ordered one in store (i tihnk you can do this in tesco not 100% though)0 -
Couldn't be ordered instore. Was an online item only which can then be picked up instore.0

Did I read somewhere that shops can offer a sale and reserve a set number to be included?
For example - the shop has 20 but set 10 aside for the sale. Therefore only 10 show in stock (or not) until the sale ends (And still marked as "While stocks last") and then the remaining 10 get put back in to stock after the sale?
And could this be 10 per shop if a large chain ?“That old law about 'an eye for an eye' leaves everybody blind. The time is always right to do the right thing.”0
