Good for anyone on a daily diet of fruit with muesli for breakfast and sausage sandwiches for lunch.

That's me (almost, I usually have sausage and egg sandwiches + no fruit with the muesli).30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -
Of course they include fuel surcharges - to do otherwise would be ridiculous
The reason is this - air fares went up, but they went up by less than a year ago. Therefore in these figures it is a downward influence.
Here's the problem with inflation. Eveyone will be pleased that inflation looks like it might be starting to fall.
However -
Inflation is still above target (and above rises in income for most people)
Even if inflation eventually hits 2% or less, the effects of recent higher inflation will stay with us - things will cost more than they would have done.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -

Just goes to show how things can change so quickly.
Must have been a very steep decline in food prices for it to outweigh the increase in fuel costs.
What I DO find strange is this one...
Falls in the price of air flights
...
Now that is one that might be put down to the Easter effect (Easter was 4th April last year so peak Easter departing flights and holidays did fall in to March last year)I think....0 -

I've been looking at holidays lately and in general, they seem to be cheaper than last year.
I'd be surprised if flights were rising, or if CPI excluded fuel charges.
5th April 2011
BA raises long haul surcharge.

That is just one of the stories. Other airlines have done the same.
Doesn't really make any sense to me that flight prices fall, while surcharges rise. I spose it's just trickery.0 -
Er Graham - 5th April won't come in to March inflation figures...Graham_Devon wrote: »5th April 2011

it's just not fair that they won't increase interest rates. not fair!!!!
Yeah, you know when I saw the news I did struggle to put a negative spin on this news so I thought I'd log in here to get my daily dose of negativity.
I wasn't disappointed.
Hopefully this does mark the start of inflation being brought under control, though.0 -

Yes I know that. It was just evidence that its happening. Could probably find links from Feb and March too, just took the first item on google news.
Surcharges have been going up ever since oil went over $100 a barrel. Just therefore find it strange that flights fall in price.
Just one from March:

FLIGHTS HAVE NOT FALLEN IN PRICE !!!!!!!
"air transport, where fares rose by less than a year ago, particularly on European routes".
As an example;
If the inflation figures comprised only of flights which had risen by 8% in the year to March 2010, the March 2010 CPI would be 8%.
If this year (to March 2011) they have only risen by 4%, then the CPI will be 4%.
Why has the CPI rate fallen from 8% to 4% - BECAUSE FLIGHTS HAVE NOT RISEN BY AS MUCH.
