Looks like the MPC was absolutely right to leave rates alone.
RPI down to 5.3% as well.
The sun is shining today - looks like it's going to be a hot summer.
I won £10 on the lottery recently - looks like it'll be the Jackpot soon.
House prices went up 0.1% last moth - looks like prices will only go up from now on.30 Year Challenge : To be 30 years older. Equity : Don't know, don't care much. Savings : That's asking for ridicule.0 -
Quite a surprise really. The BBC were running a programme this morning about rising inflation, and everyone was expecting it to rise.
Just goes to show how things can change so quickly.
Must have been a very steep decline in food prices for it to outweigh the increase in fuel costs.
What I DO find strange is this one...Falls in the price of air flights,
They are going up. They have just put their fuel surcharge charge up again. Is this not included in the price of a flight for the data purposes? If not, kind of makes this measure pretty useless, if all they have to do is call it a surcharge. The price you pay goes up. The measured data says its ok, flights are becoming cheaper and the BOE data ignores the extra surcharges.0 -

No, it's been stated that the difference between target CPI and current CPI is mostly imported energy costs or tax rises.
CPI-Y or CPI-CT will give you a baseline of the current rate of inflation minus those factors.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Did you see the retail figures? What recovery?
Good news. Reflected in improvement in balance of trade figures. The retail sector isn't going to lead the long term recovery. Retail sector will have to discount/reduce prices which will support reduction in CPI in coming months.0 -

Have you got a source?
I've been looking at holidays lately and in general, they seem to be cheaper than last year.
I'd be surprised if flights were rising, or if CPI excluded fuel charges.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

The most notable contributions came from fruit where prices fell by 4.7 per cent this year (also a record February to March movement) but rose by 0.7 per cent a year ago, and bread and cereals where prices fell by a record 2.6 per cent this year compared with a fall of 0.2 per cent a year ago.
Good news for pensioners?0 -
Any fall in the cost of food and drink will benefit the less well-off proportionally higher, so this has to be good news for all people on low/fixed incomes surely.0

Good news for everyone really. (except those wanting a premature rate rise)“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

Of course they include fuel surcharges - to do otherwise would be ridiculous
The reason is this - air fares went up, but they went up by less than a year ago. Therefore in these figures it is a downward influence.0
