Are your previous cards still open? If so, what's the combined limits?
Any missed payments, defaults, CCJs from recent years?
Everything ok on your credit reports? Electoral roll, correct address, any dodgy financial associations?
  • The card is still open but in fact i overpaid them so they owe me money!! I might have been a few days late making a payment last yr but cant remember fully.

Nothing else, no dodgy transactions or credit problems.
  • Oh i got charged by HSBC for being OD in my current account, if that counts..

Hi. I recently applied for a TESCO credit card. At the end of the application, I was declined. I checked with Experian and Equifax and no credit search was there from TPF or RBS.

The only thing I can think of is, I had a TESCO card 4 years ago and closed it when the balance transfer offer ended. Mayeb they don't like applicants returning?

Also Halifax accepted me in January for a reward card, they emailed saying I to sign and send back the agreement. No agreement ever turned up.

I did try to phone them, but they are closed when I get home from work. I am not phoning during the day as it is an 0845 number and my mobile would charge me.

I have just gotten accepted for a Nationwide CC. Could you maybe try them?
  • Ah right, well i also had Tesco and Halifax CC in the past which i closed down but that was yrs ago.

What about Experian?...which is searched by the majority of lenders I believe.

The new job will affect their 'stability' assessment, but provided there's other evidence of stability (long time with bank, long time at current address, landline phone, not too many moves in last 6 years, etc) then I wouldn't have thought that would have too much impact.

For future reference there's plenty of geographical alternatives on www.saynoto0870.com

The 'return' time for these cards are 8 months and 30 days respectively I believe.
